Reconcile financial records
Make monthly revenue and expense reporting consistent, document add-backs, separate personal expenses and reconcile major accounts to source systems. Explain anomalies before buyers find them.
Document operations
Write down recurring tasks, responsibilities, tools, contractors, suppliers, approval rights and exception handling. Buyers need to know what work they are inheriting.
Check the current marketplace, seller packages and tools directly before you choose a venue.
Reduce obvious concentration
If practical, reduce dependence on a single customer, supplier, traffic source, marketplace or employee. Do not manufacture diversification just before sale; improve the underlying business when time allows.
Confirm ownership and transferability
Check domains, code, content, trademarks, licenses, account ownership and contracts. Move assets out of personal accounts where appropriate and legally permitted.
Create a buyer-ready data room
Organize financials, analytics, contracts, SOPs, product documentation and ownership records in a logical structure. Good preparation shortens repeated questions and lowers the risk of contradictory answers.
Decide what support you will provide
Define reasonable transition training, handoff documentation and availability after closing. Buyers value clarity more than vague promises of unlimited support.
